Australian photographer, writer and director Robyn Lea has been working internationally for over 20 years. Lea moved to Milan, Italy in her late teenage years to work as a photographer’s assistant and has since become an internationally renowned photographer, TV commercials director, and best-selling author. Her critically acclaimed work has been featured in many highly-respected publications including The New York Times, Vogue USA, Time, Vogue Living, Financial Times, Vogue Entertaining & Travel, The Financial Times, Velvet, Vogue Italia, Elle Decoration UK, Marie-Claire Italy, Architectural Digest USA and Germany, T-Magazine and Gourmet Traveller.
Lea has also exhibited extensively and has had over ten solo shows, including at the prestigious Vittoriano Museum in Rome in 2015, hosted by the US Embassy, titled Cena con Jackson Pollock, Verso Expo, and at the World Expo in Milan as part of the official USA opening events program held at the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele. She has also participated in countless group exhibitions including in the USA, Australia, Russia and Zimbabwe, and an Asialink exhibition curated by Marissa Lukaszewski which toured various Asian countries including Thailand and China. She has also worked with numerous important figures in the arts, fashion and entertainment industries including Willem Dafoe, Sasha Pivovarova, Isabel Lucas, Sarah Murdoch, Claudia Schiffer, Valery Gergiev, Carla Sozzani, Antonio Marras as well as celebrated NY-based artists Ross Bleckner and Francesco Clemente.
Lea’s debut book MILAN: Discovering Food, Fashion & Family in a Private City (foreword by Barnaba Fornasetti), chronicling her years of living and shooting in Milan was followed by best-selling title Dinner with Jackson Pollock: Recipes, Art & Nature (foreword by Francesca Pollock), with luxury French publisher Assouline. Dinner with Georgia O’Keeffe: Recipes, Art & Landscape was subsequently published in 2017.
Venetian Chic, photographed by Lea with a foreword by Jeremy Irons and introduction by Francesca Bortolotto Possati, was released in early 2017 and launch events were held in New York, Venice, LA and London. The first edition of the book sold out within five months of release, and the book has become a best seller.
Lea is currently working on five new book projects, which will be launched over the next two years. The most recent release French House Chic, was photographed by Lea and written by Jane Webster, and is published by Thames & Hudson.
As testament to her global standing, Lea was chosen from thousands of photographers as the official photographer to shoot the new coffee table book for the Ritz Paris, to be released in 2018. The Ritz Paris has not released a coffee table book since 1978.
Lea relocated to Melbourne, Australia in 2015 where she currently lives with her husband and two children.
